A key function of managers is to help their team become more efficient and to help team members improve their goals. A great tool for this is an effective appraisal system. Most medium and large firms use staff appraisals but they mostly don’t work. One reason is that the system is often quite badly designed but the major reason is poor management training. If a manager is not specifically trained to get the most out of appraisal, it simply becomes a valueless pen pushing exercise, often with a resulting decreasing in motivation all round.
We have extensive experience of custom designing excellent staff appraisal systems to specifically match the needs of our clients and to comply with the requirements of IIP. We can provide training for your managers (this usually takes 2 – 3 days) and also training for your people who will be appraised. Yes, appraisees need to prepare for their appraisal to ensure they get the most out of it. Their careers depend on it. Appraisee training generally just takes a couple of hours.
